Katsu was the Fourth Tsuchikage ("Yondaime Tsuchikage" meaning "Fourth Earth Shadow") of Iwagakure, the son of the Third Tsuchikage, Onoki and the first jinchuriki of the Seven-Tailed Dragonfly, Kiyachi Namikaze, the brother of Biwami, the husband of the Seven-Tails' second jinchuriki, Mitotaki Namikaze, and the father of Onami.

Katsu was born in Iwa, as the "Honorable Son of the Third Tsuchikage" after his twin sisters. During the end of the Second Great Ninja War (at his age of 5), his mother, Mirotaki Namikaze, was hurt badly and wasn't gonna made it, so the Iwa council and Onoki made a decision to extract the Seven-Tailed Dragonfly from her body, Katsuku sadly told them why should they just remove the Seven-Tails without having no interested to save her, however, Kyachi told him that she's fine with the idea of saving the Seven-Tails by extracting and sealing it in one of her kinsmen, Kyochi. After she died and was buried, Katsuku decided to someday become the Tsuchikage, so that no body like his mother won't die on his watch.

At the age of 8, he enter to the Iwa Ninja Academy, getting the best grades in ninjutsu, taijutsu, and the most others subjects including sports except in genjutsu and fire-base nature (which was his first chakra nature at the age of 7), when he told his classmates and future wife, Mirotaki about dream of becoming a kinder and strong Tsuchikage, they thought he was a bit "girly" yet somehow really "brave". When he finally gets to talk to Mirotaki, she was very lonely become of having the Seven-Tails seal within her, but later they started talking to each other and becoming friends.
During the middle of the Third Great Ninja War, Kyochi was capture by some surviving Kinkaku Force of Kumo, Katsuku was the only shinobi to follow her tracks to her whereabout, he took down the members of Kinkaku Force and their leader with his new jutsu, after spending 4 years to perfect it, known as Kazesenki.
